CROSS COUNTRY SKI HOLIDAY
AT DOBBIACO
Toblach (Dobbiaco) is considered the stronghold of
the Italian cross-country skiing. Routes of top quality with varying
degrees of difficulty, accompanied by the picturesque backdrop of the
Dolomites, offer ideal conditions for a varied and memorable
cross-country-skiing-holiday in the Alta Pusteria. The villages of Sexten,
Innichen, Toblach, Niederdorf and Prags are connected with each other by a
continuous net of cross country ski routes, which runs of totally 200 km.
Certainly a highlight of this week will be the mountain pastures of
Platzwiese (Piazza Prato) with their glorious panorama of the surrounding
mountain summits.
You
will spend an unforgettable holiday in the winter countryside of Alta
Pusteria along the many well-prepared cross country ski routes. During
this cross-country-skiing-week you will be housed in a comfortable
4****star hotel with swimming pool and spa area.

Programme:

Day 1
|
individual
arrival in the Alta Val Pusteria (Dobbiaco/Toblach)
Free car park at the starting hotel is included. At the end of
the afternoon a route briefing with the local agent. During this
meeting maps and routes are handed over

Day 2
|
A
circulare route around lake Toblach (10–15 km, about 3 hours)
Your
route starts at the new cross country ski centre in Toblach and
you will follow the cross country ski route along the old
Dolomites railway track. Soon you reach the romantic Lake of
Toblach which is nestled gently between the two nature parks
“Fanes Sennes Prags" and "Drei Zinnen - Dolomiten".
Comfortably you ski around the lake which shimmers in the sun.
During a coffee break in one of the inns near the lake you can
observe the curling-players on the frozen lake during their
training or you just enjoy the enchanted winter scenery. In the
afternoon you slide back to your hotel.

Day 3

|
The
Pusteria Valley, from Toblach to Niederdorf and Welsberg (approx.
12-18 km, approx. 4 hours)
On
today’s programme there is the Pusteria Valley. You will ski
from Toblach to Niederdorf and Welsberg. Shortly after Toblach
you can visit the small zoo and the Gustav Mahler house before
continuing on to Niederdorf. Along the bicycle path track you
ski relaxed to Welsberg and finally this railway takes you back
to Toblach.

Day
4
|
The
Sexten Valley (approx. 12-30 km, approx. 4-6 hours)
After
breakfast a transfer is provided to the Sexten Valley (Val di
Sesto). Amidst a beautiful natural landscape you follow the
cross country ski route. You leave the Fischleintal valley
skiing through larch forests and you will proceed to Sexten. The
Dolomites seem close enough to touch them. You glide through the
dense spruce forest to Innichen, an important cultural centre of
the Alta Pusteria. Arrived at the Haunold Mountain, the track
carries you on westwards through the wide Pusteria Valley. After
a few kilometres, Toblach is in sight. |

Day 5
|
Day of rest or a trip to the cross country ski
centre in the Antholzer Valley
Today you can put up your
feet and relax in the spa centre of your hotel or maybe just
wandering through Toblach, admire the shop windows and enjoy the
rich cuisine of one of the excellent restaurants. The tireless
have the possibility to undertake a trip to the local biathlon
centre in the Antholzer Valley, where each year the famous
skiers of the biathlon sport
provide a hard fight.

Day
6
|
Prato Piazza /Pragswiese (ca. 8 km, ca. 2
hours)
Today
is dedicated to the exploration of the Plätzwiese (2000m a.s.l.),
where you can ski below the breathtaking Hohe Gaisl before
tasting the Tyrolean and Italian specialities which are prepared
in the different mountain huts. You will have a nice view over
the mountain tops of the Croda Rossa, il Cristallo, il Polena
and the Picco di Vallandro.

Day 7
|
The Höhlenstein
Valley: From Toblach to Cortina
d’Ampezzo (approx. 15)
Along the tracks of the old
railway line you continue to the Höhlenstein Valley. The "Three
Peaks" are greeting you from high above and you will have a
unique view of this world famous "trident". Past the
Lake Landro, where during a first break you can enjoy the
panoramic view of Monte Cristallo, you continue towards the
border between South Tyrol and Belluno. Here you have reached
today’s highest point and for the rest of the track you steady
glide slightly downwards till the Olympic city of Cortina
d’Ampezzo, always accompanied by the imposing Dolomites. At
the end of the afternoon a transfer by bus is provided to
Toblach.

8
|
Departure
Departure,
or there is the possibility to extend your stay. Free transfer
is provided from Prags/Plätzwiese to the starting hotel in
Sexten.
